The 2005 Executive Board has decided
to introduce a mentoring program for the benefit of the existing members
and persons trying to enter the catastrophe-adjusting field. The new
program was initially started last year with the implementation of the
apprentice membership. The apprentice membership allows a person with no
experience to join NACA and participate in the convention, with the
exception of the voting and the business meeting. This gives them an
opportunity to meet seasoned adjusters and meet with adjusting companies
at the vendor show that may be able to help the new person enter into
the catastrophe adjusting business.
The latest program is the addition of
the Mentor and Newbie resume section to the web site. The Mentor resume
is a posting for experienced members to submit a listing to agree to
mentor a Newbie into the adjusting business. The Newbie listing will
show a brief bio of the person interested in working in the adjusting
business. The idea is to assist both sides in coming together. The idea
arose from the open forum meeting at this years NACA convention. Many of
the members were interested in hiring a Newbie to assist with this years
hurricane work. The apprentice members in attendance were also
interested in finding a way to hook up with an experienced person
willing to trade adjusting experience for training and possibly some
type of compensation. The idea is a positive step for the members and
the adjusting business in general. The web-site committee is currently
working on the new addition to the web site and will have it up and
running as soon as possible.
If you have additional ideas that
would benefit the program, please contact us and we can discuss the
ideas. The board is trying to introduce a training program for the
benefit of the members and the adjusting community in general.
The executive board views this
program as a tool to the members. The Association is in no way promoting
any individual that may post a resume as a mentor or Newbie. As in any
business relationship, it is the responsibility of the persons entering
into the relationship to check references and resources. The excitement
of a new opportunity may sink quickly if all the benefits and
responsibilities are not agreed to up front. Please take the time to
review any agreement and be sure it fits your particular need. The old
saying “ Know before you go” is wisdom sometimes overlooked.
